How to see your doctor

You can make an appointment by visiting the surgery or telephoning:

01235 763451

Between 8.30am and 6.30pm Monday to Friday.

Urgent problems will always be seen on the same day. No patient, with an urgent problem, has to wait longer than a working day to see a Doctor, provided they are happy to see whichever Doctor is available. Should you require advice or wish to speak to the Doctor please telephone between 10.30am and 11.00am. It is our Practice policy that patients with an urgent problem will be put through to the Doctor of their choice, if at all possible, or the duty Doctor. If a Doctor is unavailable, the patient's telephone number is taken and the Doctor will return the call during the morning surgery or later in the evening surgery, or as soon as possible for an urgent problem. In an emergency you may see any of the Doctors, but in ordinary circumstances you should try to see your own Doctor to allow proper continuity of care.

Appointments

APPOINTMENTS SYSTEM

For an appointment the same day: ring up EARLY that day. (Phones are switched on at 8.30am)

For an appointment two days later: ring up EARLY (as above).

For an appointment up to two/three months ahead: ring any time during opening hours, but avoid the early-morning “rush hour”.

(NB here “day” refers to weekdays, not Sat or Sun)

This system works well, though
an occasional doctor shortage might make a slight difference

• We will always be able to provide an urgent “fit-in” appointment!

MAYBE A NURSE COULD SEE YOU INSTEAD OF A DOCTOR:

The nurse practitioner can deal with
minor illnesses in people over 12 years old.
(Includes sore throats, earache, conjunctivitis, eczema, hay fever, diarrhoea & vomiting, and acne.)
review of chronic illnesses.
(Includes high blood pressure, asthma, chronic bronchitis and hyperlipidaemia.)
routine checks.
(Includes diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure, HRT and contraception.)

•Tell the receptionist why you need to come in; then you will
be offered the appropriate appointment.
•We are all part of the same team here and we are all bound
by the same rules of confidentiality.

Patient Rights and Responsibilities

You have a right to expect a high standard of medical care from our practice and we will try at all times to provide the very best care possible within the resources available.

In order to assist us in this we require that you take full responsibility for ensuring that you do not abuse the service. For example, it is your responsibility to ensure that you keep medical appointments and follow the medical advice given.

Very occasionally a practice/patient relationship breaks down completely. In this situation the patient may choose to register with a different practice. The practice also has the right to remove that patient from their list. This would generally only follow a warning that had failed to remedy the situation and we would normally give the patient a specific reason for the removal.

Home visits

If you are too ill to come to the Health Centre, a home visit can be arranged by telephoning: Wantage 763451

It is helpful if you can telephone before 10.00am so that the Doctors can plan their rounds before leaving the Health Centre or their homes.

Violence against staff working in the NHS is a crime. The NHS operates a zero tolerance to violence and abuse against its staff and any incident where staff are abused, threatened or assaulted will result in the patient being reported to the police and no longer allowed to receive medical services from this Practice.
