In an emergency, Repeat prescriptions, New patient registration.
The new Health Centre has been planned since 1998 in collaboration with the Church Street Practice. Although both practices value our position next to Wantage Community Hospital we have no room to expand. The current building which we have occupied since 1975 has been altered several times to squeeze in more rooms for extra staff but has been at bursting point for several years. The car park has always been too small. General Practice has changed significantly since 1975. The Practice team has grown with Practice Nurses joining the GPs in providing care. Wantage and Grove have changed as well over this period. More houses mean more families and more Doctors and Nurses and we need the right surroundings in which to deliver modern medicine. The services we provide are increasing, we need the space to be able to deliver.
We know that there are some who would not have us move from Wantage. However, our catchment area extends to a seven mile radius, Grove is nearly as populated as Wantage and the move to Mably Way puts us more centrally in the practice area.
We very much hope one day, Wantage Hospital will be rebuilt on the new site. The hospital serves all our patients and of course it is convenient for both the Doctors and hospital staff and patients to be on the same site. There is to be a public meeting at the Civic Hall in Wantage on the Saturday 13th April to discuss the relocation of the hospital.
The Community Hospital is managed by South West Oxfordshire Primary Care Trust along with three other Community Hospitals in its area, Witney, Didcot and Abingdon. A long-term strategic plan for these hospitals has been developed hopefully to strengthen the case for their retention.
